Cabinet Finishes

The finish protects your cabinets and defines their final appearance. From natural stains to designer paint colors, explore every finishing option available for your custom cabinetry.

Finish Types Compared

Each finish type offers different aesthetics, durability, and maintenance characteristics.

Clear Coat / Natural

Transparent finish that protects the wood while showcasing its natural grain and color. Available in matte, satin, and gloss sheens. Ideal for beautiful hardwoods like white oak and walnut.

Best for: White Oak, Walnut, Cherry, Hickory

Stained Finish

Pigment added to enhance or alter the wood's color while preserving visible grain. Hundreds of stain colors available — from light honey tones to deep espresso.

Best for: Alder, Red Oak, Maple, Birch

Painted Finish

Opaque paint in any color — white, gray, navy, sage, or custom-matched to your décor. Multiple coats with catalyzed conversion varnish for exceptional durability.

Best for: Maple, MDF, Poplar, Birch

Glazed Finish

A secondary coating applied over paint or stain, then wiped back — leaving color concentrated in corners and details. Adds depth and an antique, timeworn character.

Best for: Traditional, Old World, and Tuscan kitchens

Cerused / Wire-Brushed

The wood grain is opened with a wire brush, then filled with a contrasting pigment (typically white or gray). Creates dramatic, textured grain — a signature of luxury modern design.

Best for: White Oak, Ash — modern statement kitchens

Thermofoil / Laminate

A durable vinyl or laminate layer bonded to an engineered wood substrate. Uniform color, highly cleanable, and budget-friendly. Available in solid colors and woodgrain patterns.

Best for: Utility rooms, laundry rooms, budget-conscious projects
